Established in April 1998, the Meishan Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Meishan Health Supervision Office) was formerly known as the Meishan Prefecture Preventive Health Center. It is a Category I public institution at the municipal level, primarily engaged in disease prevention and control, health administrative law enforcement and supervision, as well as public health technical management and services. Its main responsibilities include: the prevention and control of infectious, parasitic, endemic, and non-communicable diseases; the emergency response to public health emergencies and disaster-related epidemics; the management of epidemic and health-related information, conducting disease surveillance, and collecting, reporting, analyzing, and evaluating public health information on diseases and health hazard factors; the monitoring and intervention of health hazard factors, conducting monitoring, evaluation, and epidemiological investigations of foodborne, occupational, radiation-related, and environmental diseases; monitoring and evaluating public health and nutritional status and proposing intervention strategies and measures; testing and identifying disease pathogens, as well as detecting and evaluating physical and chemical factors; health promotion and education, providing health guidance to the public and intervening in unhealthy behaviors; providing guidance on the technical management and applied research of disease prevention and control; overseeing the professional activities of providers of drinking water, medical institutions, maternal and child health care institutions, and blood collection and supply institutions and their practitioners throughout the city; supervising and enforcing regulations on health-related products such as water-related products and disinfection products; carrying out supervision and law enforcement in areas such as public place sanitation, school health, occupational health, radiation health, disinfection management, infectious disease prevention and control, and health emergencies; and undertaking other disease prevention and control tasks.

The Center is currently a Level III, Grade B Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Sichuan Province, with a building area of 11,140.88 square meters, of which 4,100 square meters are laboratory facilities. It has an authorized staff of 130, is organized into 17 internal departments, and serves as a teaching and practice base for Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jilin Medical University, Chengdu Medical College, and Meishan Vocational College of Pharmacy. It has successively established two national-level network laboratories, three provincial-level reference laboratories, and two provincial-level network laboratories. The Center has obtained accreditation as a testing and inspection institution, accreditation as a radiation health technical service institution, and accreditation for occupational health technical services.

In 2017, it was named a “National Advanced Collective of the Health and Family Planning System” by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2021, it was honored as an “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Sichuan Province” by the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and as an “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization in the Fight Against the COVID-19 Epidemic” by the Meishan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 2024, it was recognized as an “Advanced Collective in Sichuan Province’s Medical and Health Work” by the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security.
